Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Another summer, another crazy cross-country road trip. Claire is moving to D.C. so we set out just about two weeks ago from San Francisco, via Vegas for two nights, the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon, Dallas for a weekend with good friends, and now home in Birmingham for five days.

Here’s the kicker. Tomorrow I fly back to San Francisco for 24 hours for a job fair, then to Williamsburg for a week for Law Review orientation. At the end of next week I take a train to D.C. to recover my car, and then finally drive back to Williamsburg to start classes. In the meantime, Claire will continue on to D.C. with her mom, and I’ll see her there when I drive up.

Three weeks of travel, three modes of transportation, but a beautiful and fun adventure! To prove as much, here are my pictures from the Grand Canyon.

Boogity Boogity Boogity, Amen

I can’t get this out of my head.  I love it.

My take on iPhone v. Android

A friend is considering moving from Blackberry to either iPhone or Android, and asked for my thoughts.  Here’s what I wrote to him.

Some adjustments

I spent some time last night modifying the site design here.  I’m pretty pleased with it.

I’ve implemented new fonts by way of the Google Web Fonts collection, which is really neat.  The titles and post text are in Quattrocentro, while the meta text and sidebar text are in Quattrocentro Sans.  I also fiddled with padding and borders, which I think makes the site a little friendlier on the eyes and scannable.  Finally, on each post page, I’ve added social elements: the Twitter “tweet” button and the Google +1 button.

I’ve also made some other adjustments in the past few months.  In particular, you may have noticed the hyphenation in post text.  This comes via a plug-in called Hyphenator.  It’s not always perfect, but I think it works rather nicely overall.  The categories and archives are also new and – to the extent that such things can be – fun.  They come via the Collapsing Archives and Collapsing Categories plug-ins.

Let me know your thoughts!
